SOUTH PITTSBURG - Over the next three months, SVEConnect will be applying for a share of $15 million in grants available through the Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act. The grant program is open to all electric and telephone cooperatives in the state and its goal is to assist in establishing broadband service to unserved areas.
The four unserved communities where SVEConnect will be applying for the grants are South Pittsburg Mountain/Orme, Battle Creek/Sweetens Cove, Griffith Creek and Jasper (Sequatchie) Mountain.
Part of the grant application process will include SVEConnect to hold two meetings for each community and for residents in the grant areas to write letters to the State explaining why broadband service to their community is important. The meetings will be scheduled as early as this month. Dates, times and locations will be announced soon.
SVEConnect is an Internet Service Provider (ISP) serving high-speed internet, television and telephone service to Marion County, Tennessee. SVEConnect is a subsidiary of Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative.
